Good Day To Not Die
I didn’t die today nor did I see anyone get killed. So I must say it was a good day. Driving home on the 5 South near The Block around 4:30PM I first heard tires screeching, I’m glancing around and don’t see anything at first then I see a white compact car fishtailing from the fast lane into the wide zone separating the carpool lane. The white car then spun back in front of a car in the fast lane and was kind of spinning backwards across the 5 or 6 lanes there. This is all going on ahead of me but I have a front row seat as the distance between us rapidly evaporates. I’m slowing down during this dance move but I’m just not sure what is going to happen so I want my options open in case some chain reaction starts. He manages to miss every one and the spin brings him back into my lane. He comes to a stop in my lane with his driver-side door perpendicular to me. By now I’ve humped on the brakes and come to a nice stop with ten feet to spare. I also had room to steer to the lane on my right side but I knew I’d stop in time. We made eye contact he waved started up his car and drove off, with a pair of messy shorts no doubt. If I had not been paying attention, you know trying to fish something out of the passenger foot-well, I probably would have killed him outright. He was very fortunate that the traffic was so light today and nobody hit anything.
After driving on a bit I finally had time to be a little shook up, I also thought what a great blog picture it would have been to get him when he was waving at me in perfect T-bone position. Course I was more worried about what overloaded semi might be about to ride up my rear at the time.
