Pouring the curb

Poured the curbs for the art room foundation. The curb serves is to keep rainwater from collecting against the garage wall or from draining into the neighbors yard in the event that a some future date the room/cover is removed from the patio.

Curb forms

The forms for the concrete curbs are all ready for concrete. Too hot to start mixing now. Tomorrow will be the day.

Am I nuts?

Last week I checked the emergency lights at spag, two needed new batteries and two need the entire fixture replaced as they have been troublesome and use a nonstandard battery that is hard to find. It would be easier and cheaper in the long run to just replace them. Problem is these two are above the main dining room floor. They are about 18 feet from the floor. I don’t do extension ladders, I also imagine one of those Three Stooges scenes of falling backwards. I have a monster platform ladder that I can “stand” to climb to the top of. (I have more of a fear of falling than a fear of heights, I just need to feel secure) Anyway I come up about 12 too short to work on those lights. I checked the reach of our new manager and I think he could reach, problem is he started sweating just at my mention of climbing a ladder, so I had to figure something else out. Well I just need the platform ladder to be about a foot taller, Okay I’m make some lifts for those feet. So I did. I laminated many layers of particle board together to a height of 14″ or so about 12″ square. These puppies weigh about 50 lbs each.

Here is my creation in action, note the white thingy on the brown beam above the ladder - that is the new light I installed. I only broke into a mild sweat on this job, I could have used a few more inches on my blocks as it was right at the limits of my extension.
